Project Details

SkyVille @ Dawson is a public housing project comprising 3 interconnected blocks of 960 apartment units. The blocks are organised into ‘Sky Villages’ of 80 apartment units that share common sky terraces and communal facilities. These include a supermarket, coffee shop and retail spaces, community living rooms and pavilions, play areas and fitness facilities.

Key Features

• Unique design approach that creates community clusters (sky villages) with communal spaces to foster sense of community and belonging amongst the residents.

• Communal spaces are seamlessly connected to neighbouring developments, including the Alexandra canal linear park and existing public housing blocks.

• Heritage wall murals that depict the area’s unique history are incorporated into communal areas of the development.

• Sky terraces and the rooftop park are accessible for the enjoyment of the residents and the general public.

• Innovative apartment design features include:

  • Flexible floor plans featuring column and beam free interior, enabling easy adaptation/changes in lifestyles and throughout the life cycle; and

  • Operable windows located at lower height, allowing wheelchair users to access it.

CapitaGreen

CapitaGreen is a 40-storey premium Grade A office tower located at the Central Business District. The tower features a ‘Wind Funnel’ that draws fresh air from high altitude to cool the internal office spaces. CapitaGreen provides a range of user-centric amenities to provide greater convenience and to better meet the needs of its building occupants.

Key Features

• All entrances have been designed to be step-less, sheltered and fitted with auto-doors to enable ease of access by wheelchair users and persons with limited mobility.

• The development is well-connected to other buildings through the Underground Pedestrian Network (UPN).

• Sculptures are used as landmarks for intuitive way-finding.

• The design of the concierge counter considered the needs of the wheelchair user.

• Provision of pro-family features such as nursing rooms and diaper changing stations in male and female washrooms. Provision of other user-friendly features include child-friendly handrails and Braille/tactile indicators.

• To promote a conducive work environment by maximising daylight into each floor, the office floor plates were designed with depths of 13m to 16m. Deep sunshade overhangs are also incorporated into the façade design to prevent glare.

• Use of landscaped terraces (Sky Forest and Sky Terraces) at various levels and extensive façade greenery to bring nature into the work environment.

Enabling Village

The Enabling Village is a community space refurbished from an old Bukit Merah ITE campus which combines retail, lifestyle and training. It is also home to SG Enable’s information and career centre, which co-locates its job placement and job support service with offices operated by voluntary welfare organisations, such as the Autism Resource Centre, MINDS and SPD.

Key Features

• The accessible training spaces in the Enabling Village open up new opportunities for SG Enable and its partners to co-create and offer a comprehensive suite of training and employment initiatives that help maximise the potential of persons with disabilities.

• Other accessible amenities include a supermarket, gym, café/restaurant and art gallery, offering visitors the convenience of accessing amenities in the same development.

• The architects mitigated site constraints to produce a well-design accessible outdoor amphitheatre that is functional and usable by all.

• Wheelchair accessible paths provide connectivity throughout the development and to the surrounding areas.

• A range of user-friendly facilities are provided to serve people of various abilities. These include an interactive directory with adjustable height to suit people of different statures, as well as Braille maps and hearing enhancement systems for people with sensory disabilities.

• Purpose-designed way-finding cues such as bright and contrasting precinct markers, block numerical signage, and directory maps are aesthetically integrated within the development.

Acacia Breeze at Yishun

Project Details

Acacia Breeze @ Yishun is a public housing development comprising 834 residential units in 8 blocks of 13-storey high residential buildings, a multi-storey car park and commercial/community facilities.

Key Features

• A network of sheltered walkways provide seamless connections between the blocks in the development. This is supplemented by wide open footpaths that lead to precinct amenities such as playground and fitness stations.

• A ‘Community Living Room’ at the 1st Storey of each residential block is provided with ample tables and seats for residents to gather.

• Commercial and community facilities such as shops, minimart, eating house, childcare centre and pavilions are well-connected to the residential blocks.

• Car-free spaces are provided on the ground floor of the multi-storey car park block to create a flexible communal space.

• Provision of distinctive graphics and colours for easy way-finding and orientation.

H20 Residences

H20 Residences is a private residential development, comprising 521 residential units, 2 basement car parks and retail facilities.

Key Features

• The development is designed to integrate with the riverfront through well-planned physical and visual connections.

• Consultation with Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped (SAVH) to develop a comprehensive way finding system. Tactile, braille and Braille directory are provided at communal and functional areas.

• Doors along corridors are on the same plane with the adjacent walls to ensure that the access route is obstruction-free. Door handles are set into the door panels to ensure that there are no protrusions from the doors.

• Well-designed screening is incorporated into the façade design to ensure safety in the maintenance of air-conditioners.

Punggol Topaz

Project Details

Punggol Topaz is a public housing development comprising 12 residential blocks with 1010 units, 2 blocks of multi-storey car park with commercial and community facilities.

Key Features

• The development overcame site constraints to provide seamless connectivity between blocks, common facilities and external public transport nodes through the use of sheltered link-ways and accessible pathways.

• Easy way-finding methods are adopted, with the use of clear directional signage, illuminated block signage and patterned floors.

• Accessible community gardening spaces, 3G exercising corners, children play area and pavilions with ample seating are provided in the development.

• A series of educational wall panels are featured around the development to reinforce the identity of the development. These panels depict wildlife that used to inhabit the former swampy site.

Senja Parc View

Senja Parc View is a public housing development comprising 577 units in 3 blocks of residential units, a Multi Storey Car Park (MSCP), Precinct Pavilion, Community Facilities and a Neighbourhood Park.

Key Features

• Constellation Plaza is located in the middle of 3 residential blocks, serving as a central visual reference point. The plaza also provides a communal area for congregation and social interaction.

• Seamless connectivity within and with neighbouring precincts through the provision of sheltered linkways, accessible footpaths and ramps.

• Clever use of barrier-free link bridges overcome undulating terrain and connect the multi-storey carpark roof garden and residential block to the neighbourhood park, bringing nature and greenery to the doorsteps of the residents.

• Prominently-designed sheltered drop off porch and precinct pavilion provide additional communal gathering areas for residents during rainy weather.

• Ample outdoor seats that provide rest areas for residents. A number of seats with grab rails are also provided for elderly and ambulant disabled.

The Nassim

Key Features

• Braille directory maps are provided at the arrival porch to assist way-finding for the visually-impaired.

• Distinct architectural articulation of the apartment blocks provide cues for way-finding.

• The simple and intuitive arrangement of spaces around the E-deck provides clear orientation around the development.

• Large, open-to-sky courtyards located in the basement carpark serve as visual reference points. These courtyards also provide fresh air and natural lighting into the basement.

• Lavish landscaping with generous shading for the resident’s comfort is thoughtfully crafted into the development.

• Ample rest areas with a variety of elder-friendly seats are provided throughout the large development.

• A comprehensive Braille system has been introduced within the development with the assistance of Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped.

• Dual-key unit options are provided to promote multi-generational living.

• Other apartment features include innovative ‘smart storage system’ to allow spatial flexibility for residents.

Ci Yuan Community Club

Key Features

Bedok Mall & Bedok Residences is an integrated development comprising a shopping mall, bus interchange and residential towers. The development is directly linked to the Bedok MRT station and bus interchange.

Key Features

• Rigorous and inclusive design processes that involved consultation with various stakeholders in the early stages of the development.

• Terrain challenges and level differences are resolved through careful planning to seamlessly connect the various programmes of the integrated development.

• Spacious canopied paths within the development connects the MRT, bus interchange, bus stop, taxi stand and adjacent public plaza.

• A full-height atrium in shopping mall serves as a central focal point to assist way-finding and orientation.

• User-friendly amenities such as generous seating and dedicated boarding points are provided at the concourse and bus interchange for wheel chair users and visually-impaired persons.

• Numerous pockets of family-friendly recreational facilities are also provided on the landscape deck to promote social inclusion. These include as spa pools, lap pool, children’s pool, pavilions, fitness stations, playgrounds and kinetic water feature for various level of users.

Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park

Bishan-AMK Park is one of the largest urban parks in central Singapore. The old concrete canal was de-concretised as part of PUB’s Active, Beautiful and Clean Waters (ABC) Programme to form a meandering river. The 63 hectare park with its lush greenery is also home to a variety of flora and fauna.

Al-Ansar Mosque

The new Al-Ansar Mosque is located in the heart of Bedok’s housing estate. The 4-storey mosque contains a basement carpark and is a revitalization of the old mosque with its iconic minaret.

Key Features

• The lack of fencing around the boundary provides permeability into the development and promotes social inclusion.

• Meaningful adaptive reuse of the old minaret, which also serves as a navigational feature within the mosque and for the surroundings.

• The void space within the minaret was cleverly utilised with the insertion of a lift to provide accessibility to different levels in the mosque.

• Removal of entrance steps to enable the elderly or persons with limited mobility to access the prayer hall. This seamless accessibility is maintained throughout the mosque’s compound.

• Provision of user friendly features such as stairs for ambulant disabled, resting lounge, seating, children toilet, family prayer room, and wheelchair rental services.

Development of Market and Hawker Centre at Bukit Panjang Ring Road

Key Features

• Provision of family-friendly facilities such as designated nursing room, family dining area with pram parking facilities, flexible seating arrangements and variety of seating heights.

• Common dining tables are equipped with movable seating to promote social interactions and flexible use for bigger dining groups. Movable seating at the dining tables also allows for flexible wheelchair seating.

• Use of high ceiling volume within the hawker centre to promote ventilation and a more comfortable dining experience.

• Provision of a flexible community space at the 2nd storey for events such as trade fairs and public social activities.

Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve

The Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve (SBWR) is one of NParks’ flagship parks and is also Singapore's first ASEAN Heritage Park. NParks’ vision for SBWR is to be a wetland hub and nature learning centre serving Singapore and the region. SBWR is designed as an inclusive park where the elderly, young children, as well as persons with various disabilities are able to enjoy the natural environment due to the provision of user-friendly facilities.

Key Features

• SBWR is zoned into high, medium and low activity zones with programmes designed to different groups of visitors.

• Wide and accessible trails are provided within the reserve for all visitors to explore the unique flora and fauna. Aerie towers, shelters and observation hides are designed to maximise view while informative panels and activities educate visitors on the area’s biodiversity.

• Ample shaded resting areas are provided throughout the park with seats made with materials to prevent heat absorption. This enables a person to comfortably use the seat anytime during the day.

• The visitor’s centre is equipped with water coolers, vending machines and family-friendly sanitary facilities.
