Registrable activities
Under the Building Control Act 1989, anyone installing, maintaining, inspecting or testing fixed installations must register with the Building and Construction Authority (BCA).
Overview
The registrable activities and corresponding workheads are as follows:

* Fixed installation works refers to– (a) installation of any fixed installation; (b) the carrying out of such major alteration or replacement works as may be prescribed in respect of any fixed installation; or (c) the testing and commissioning, following the completion of any works mentioned in (a) or (b), of any fixed installation. ** Registrants performing this class of registrable activity are required to comply with different conditions of registration, depending on the type of lifts the Registrants maintain, inspect, and/or test. | |

Permit To Operate (PTO) Lifts and Escalators
A valid Permit to Operate (PTO) is required before Fixed Installations owners can operate their Fixed Installations equipment. The PTO ensures that the Fixed Installations meet all safety and maintenance standards.
Building owners can apply for a PTO through the Lifts and Escalators Application (LEAP) Portal. For details on applying for a Permit to Operate (PTO), please refer to the PTO application process guide.
